Operating system please and is it to be a slave to the master drive?

  concretepigsy 14:00 04 Apr 04

Its Win 98Se and the drive to be formatted is the slave drive

  fsbb 14:14 04 Apr 04

If it is already partitioned, go to 'my computer'. Right click on the slave drive icon. Select format.

If it is new (not partitioned)boot using you win p8 startup disk. When the A: appears type fdisk and key enter. Follow instruct to partition. Re-boot into Windows and format as in para 1.

Thats what I thought, but i get a message saying windows is using this drive and wont begin the format

  fsbb 14:48 04 Apr 04

Is the slave blank or are their files on it?

  fsbb 14:51 04 Apr 04

Try this. reboot using startup disk. when A: appears type format ?: (replace ? with your slave drive letter). Hit enter.

Try removing the master disk,

Install new disk as master.

Get bootable floppy and use fdsik to partition it ; then do a format.

And then replace old master with the OS and the new one as slave.

It should work ok as fsbb suggests, but do make sure that when you select drive (Probably D:in your set up) to format that you have it right
