Format prob.

  madmike 13:52 21 Aug 04

I am trying to Format my Hard Drive,so I can do a fresh instalation of Windows 98 before selling ,but, I have been unable to.
When I reboot my computer with my start up disc in the floppy drive ,the computer appears to ignore it, and continues to load Windows as normal, so I have been unable to reach the A:/> prompt, to start the format.
The floppy drive appears to work ok, I have used different disk`s and made fresh boot disk`s, but still no go.
I would be grateful for any ideas.
Many Thanks

Is the computer set to boot from floppy?

  madmike 14:14 21 Aug 04

It appears to,

Bios settings are as follows:
Floppy Drive A: 1.44 MB 3 1/2 ( 1.44 MB 3 1/2 highlighted )
Advanced CMOS SETUP:
1st Boot Device IDE-0
2nd Boot Device Floppy
3rd Boot Device CDROM
4th Boot Device Disabled
Try Other Boot Device Yes

Further down the list I have:

Floppy Drive Swap Disabled
Floppy Drive Seek Disabled

I hope this helps

You need to make the floppy the first boot. Change it back when you've finished.

Or you could restart in MS-DOS mode via the 'Turn off computer' button.
