format confusion

  jensen1 20:55 29 Oct 03

I want to format my drive and install 98se but I am not sure what to type at the A prompt. I have found info at different places saying:- format C: /u or format C: /s or format C: /s /v
Will either of the above do the job?
thank you.

got a boot disk from click here then copy to floppy and then put floppy in system and then reboot then when disk loads up type format c:\ or format c: if the other one dont work. then when format complete, install your OS.

format c:/u = format unconditionally

format c:/s = format and copy system files to c:

i think the /v is for verify system files have been copied correctly.

just type format c:

+ press enter then answer yes (Y) when it warns of all data will be destroyed, or enter to continue

you dont need the /s or /u unless you have problems.

hope this helps

the '/s ' is for system ie
format c: /s.
if you type 'help' at the a prompt-guess what happens?
