Format C Drivein external enclosure

I have a C Drive (Windows XP Home) that I am taking out of a redundant desktop and I want to use it as a storage disk in an external enclosure - USB2 connection,
Can I put it in the enclosure, connect and then format in Windows XP or must I do something to it first?

As your BIOs is not set to boot from usb devices (you can check this by pressing DEL on boot up,some machines use a different key F2 sometimes) If this is disabled, you can plug the drive in AFTER you have booted to XP and then format using the NTFS file system.

If you put the redundant HD into the case and plug that into another computer using the USB connection, you can format/wipe it and use it just like that.

Yes - Just use Disk Management.

Settings - Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.

You can remove partitions, add partitions and format
