Format of 2.5" drive.

I have a spare 2.5" drive with Windows XP OS on it. I replaced it with a bigger drive in my HP laptop.

I wish to use it as a backup. Bought a small box to put it in but the drive is not recognised. I tried to format it by putting it back in the Laptop. In disk management the format box is greyed out.

Have you any suggestions?

Sorry but is there any way of formatting this disk?

Eventually was able to format drive by attaching it to other PC. The problem appeared to arise originally because the drive had a copy of XP on it and the laptop would not recognise it. Funny but the other PC did.

Reading the site you suggested steered me in the right direction thankyou. Very unfortunately the person running it just passed away.

Thankyou for your help.

Glad you got it sorted - so sorry to hear that news though.

Thank you for the feedback.
