My Father-in-law has just given his laptop computer to my daughter. In preparation for handing it over he changed his password to one more applicable to my daughter. However, by the time he had handed it over to her he had forgotten the password. Is there a way we can overcome this problem and gain access to the machine ?

By and large its accepted that giving assistance on removing passwords is not something to be done.

However give us an indication of the password thats in place and I'm sure people will decide if its suitable.

Is this a BIOS password or a windows password or something else?

What the make of the laptop and what version of Windows are you running?

Also if you can tell us what programs are on the Laptop, this will confirm ownership. Father-in Law will know. Regards. j.

If it is windows, you will have a hard job.

It would mean creaking into it. Dont think anyone is going to tell you that.

Anyway, if it is a bios password, easy!

Make?

Windows passwords are anything but secure. You can get round anything other than XP, 2000 and NT very easily and even those aren't that hard to bypass.
