FORGOTTEN LOGIN PASSWORD IN NT 4.0

i've got a laptop running nt 4.0 . problem is that i have forgotten the login password.

i have been told to use a ntfs boot floppy which i have done , and to go it winnt\system32\config and rename the SAM file.

i cant rename or delete or edit this file as it has no file extention.

how do i rename it.

It supposes to "Change file name associations from the command line" for N.T. I have read it and still don't have a clue. lol
