can anyone tell me why my floppy drive will not read the disks, when i insert a disk and click on 3.5 floppy it,s say's insert disk which i have. i tried my spare floppy but still the same any ideas anyone.

I had this problem and it turned out that the cable had worked loose. Check that the cable is firmly inserted at both ends (back of the drive and motherboard).

As Pumas points out a loose cable(s) will be the most likely cause - the second is the eject button not coming out far enough after inserting a floppy disk.

My son is an IT support specialist and has pointed out in the past that loose or faulty cables are the biggest cause of problems with floppy drives.

Worth a check too in Device Manager that the drive is working OK - the driver will be the standard Windows one.
