Floppy disk problems

  Liteman 10:52 14 Jun 09

I have a number of 3.5" floppy disks which I am trying to read via a SmartDisk USB remote floppy drive. All disks come up with "The disk in drive A is not formatted, do you want to format it now" If I say yes it can't do it, if I say no, it won't read it. I'm using XP Home SP2.

Any ideas?

Is the tab on the floppy disk on locked?
This would stop you from formatting the disk.

They're all write enabled

disks are corrupt or your drive is busted..

fair test would to try them in another drive...

I'm beginning to think you might be right - trouble is that I don't have another floppy drive.

May be worth seeing if they can be read on a friends PC then copying to CD or DVD.

That's an admission of failure - but it's the route I'd decided I'd have to take.

Thanks all for trying
