"Floppy disc(s) fail (40) ?

  wotbus@ 20:35 22 Feb 07

I have just installed XP onto a PC I have put together from odds/ends, and when it booted up I got this message. I realise the Floppy Drive and/or the ribbon may be faulty, but what's the "40" bit ?

OK and thanks. I may have taken the ribbon from the "junk - may come in handy for something one day" box and it's duff. Thanks as always. ;-)

Hi, could be a registry fault - try something like RegScrub, let it fix all errors found.

Uhhhhh - the ribbon was "S" and connected properly. The problem was - the drive was lacking something less commonly known as EMF. (If I could do an "embarrassed smiley I would"...)
