floppy disc problems

Having probs with floppy.

When accessing floppy,I get the 'please insert disc into drive A.
Have checked all connections, also fit a new floppy drive.Still no luck: any advice please.

Before you try anything else, see if it recognises your Start-up floppy restart your comp with the disc in and see if it reads it

I had a similar problem and discovered the floppy disk drive would only work if one of the holding screws was taken out and the other one was not tightened up too much I have no idea why but it worked.

Go to device manager, and open the floppy icon now put a tick in the box Disable in this Profile. Restart windows with the startup disc and tell me if it can read the floppy.

Well - It's one of theses things -

The floppy drive - the cable - the floppy drive setting in the BIOS - the motherboard, or the power getting to the floppy drive. can't be anything else.

So eliminate them one at a time.

First check the correct type of floppy is set in the BIOS (3.5" 1.44Mb).

Then change the power cable over for another one.

Then change the floppy cable

Then change the floppy

Then change the motherboard.
