floppy disc

Although the System says my floppy drive is ok it does not interfere with my PC on start up even with a disc inserted and when I try to access it it insists the discs are not formatted ( even though they are) Do you think the floppy drive is u/s?

Hi gell. These may both be the same problem, or may be different. The floppy drive could be faulty, and fortunately are very easy to replace and can cost as little as £5 click here. It is also possible that the cable is faulty or not properly connected.

The fact that having a floppy disk in the drive doesn't interfere with booting could be because the BIOS is set up to boot from the hard drive before the floppy.

I am getting the message 'The disc media is not recognised. It may not be formatted.'
I have put a new floppy in with the same result.
Any ideas. Help!!!
