All the adverts have all those (confusing) numbers. can you shed some light, on what to look for. (ms, pixel, resolution, etc. ????)

looking at a 17 inch, cheapish (if poss) TIA.

LG1710B is what I have. Now superceded I think, but a fantastic and keenly priced TFT with dual DVI and DSub input + a couple of USB ports on the side.

For a cheapie with analogue only the AOC LM720A I have on my second PC is bloody good for under £200, but it does include speakers.

At 17" a good screen will have a resolution of at least 1280x1024, a speed of below 20ms and a digital connection (if your video card has one - go for one anyway, your next card will have).

Screen rotation is probably not that important.

Such a screen will be good for games and all other prposes. If you're not interested in games a slower speed would be acceptable.

You should be able to get one for less than £200 with ease.

While I think about it, don't go for the real el cheapo monitors:

1. They often use sub-standard and second grade panels and were shipped out cheap to the fringe players. More incidence of dead pixels etc

2. They usually have a slower response time 20ms and above

3. They definitely will not include a DVI cable

The 17" TFT monitor i bought from PC World is branded Philips and has a response time of 16ms. I play alot of games aswell and it's fine. It's also a good idea to stick to known brands aswell; Philips have been making TV's for years and have plenty of knowledge in the visualy industry so thats always a good reassurance and i've had no problems with it. When i made the purchase it was £360, but that was a year ago and its most likely dropped significantly by now.

Regards.
