first time format please assist

im trying to format using windows xp home edition .ive searched google but the information i have doesnt seem to be working please advise.

Have you tried entering "format" and "XP" into the search box at the top of the helproom page? It will then list previous postings about this.

ive read through alot of the previous threads but im still a bit unsure .i do not have the windows XP cd but i do have the product recovery disc dvd-rom im i to beleive that i insert this disc into my lap top and then i will be guided through the rest.

The Windows XP was installed at the Factory by the manufacturer of your PC.

The Product recovery CD/DVD is only a factory settings restore and does not contain Windows XP.

If you did format your HDD the Recovery CD would be rendered useless to yourself/pc.

You would need to go and buy a Windows XP CD for £80 OEM OR £120 ish Retail.

i went ahead and inserted the recovery dvd before i read your thread .i followed the prompts on screen and as far as i can see so far everything is working fine .
