Help please, I am totally computer illiterate
I have a Mesh PC running Windows Vista connecting to Virgin broadband via a cable modem. I want to upgrade my BB speed for which I need an ethernet connection. I don't think, or at least I have been unable to ascertain, that my pc has an ethernet card. It does have a Firewire port, can this be used instead of ethernet

Firewire basically, is for connecting items such as Camcorders.

Have a look at the back of your PC, an Ethernet connection looks exactly the same as the cable connection into a normal house telephone, except that it is quite a bit larger! If you can see one of these sockets then yes, you have Ethernet.

If you have not already got it, you can easily get and fit a PCI Ethernet card with such a socket on it - very cheap too.
