Firewire card not locating Digicamera.

I have a new Firewire card IEEE 1394 PCI Host Controller Card for use in downloading my Panasonic digital video camera to PC.
My OS is WIN ME and it recognised the card and installed it, but whatever I do it will not recognise the camera.
I understand ME does not require special drivers so should work straight away!
The card is a DV-1000LE and is IEEE 1394 PCI Host Controller.
Is this the correct card? it came with the right connection lead.
I have folowed up help lines from Microsoft and Roxio but still no go.

Have not used ME, but-

Using W2k. What driver do you have loaded in device manager? Mine uses Texas Instruments which recognises my Panasonic as generic. Try that.

Don't wish to be too simplistic but you have selected VCR on you camera and plugged in before booting?

I am using the NVDS65 and NVDS11.
