According to a website I was looking at you can hang up to 63 devices on a wirewire. I don't want that many - just a couple of external HDD's and a DVD writer for video editing - anyone any experience on performance? Thanks.

Firwire has been overtaken somewhat by USB2. Check that out before investing also USB2 devices tend to be lower cost.

Thanks - I should have said that I already have the firewire and one of the HDD's and was planning to expand but wondering about performance. For the DVD writer I fancy the Sony 510UL which will give me firewire or USB2 - again I'm a bit worried about performance with a number of USB devices already on the system - I don't understand how resource is allocated.
