This might seem like a silly question but...does a motherboard have to have a Firewire chip, such as a Via VT6307, before it will support Firewire?
I've tried to install a Firewire PCI card, which had a Via chip, but the computer, Windows XP Pro SP3, just wouldn't recognise it.
Is there a way round this does anyone know?

Don't think so, I always assumed a PCI firewire card was for adding firewire to motherboards that don't include it??

Maybe the card's a dud? Can you try it in another pc?
