Bought my computer in 2003 and only had antivirus software for about 6 months. You can imagine what trouble ive had with viruses & spies etc. Whats the best and cheapest way to keep ALL of these at bay? Do i have to pay monthly for these or are there any free regular updates i can get??? please help!!

Don't forget to mention re not installing two or more real time AV applications (Avast/AVG/Antivir etc.) or two or more firewalls (Kerio/Zone Alarm/Sygate etc.). Also the ad hoc scanning applications (Spybot/a-squared/Ad-aware etc.) need regular updating. My recommendation would be to have MS Antispyware and Avast running in real time and SpywareBlaster installed. Scan regularly with updated versions of Spybot, Ad-Aware and a-squared. Zone Alarm firewall works well for me too. If you want to go further, try Prevx and PeerGuardian for additional privacy and the Firefox browser will also assist with your p.c. security.
