firewall on Xp

I have windows xp and have turned on the firewall as i have just got broadband. How do i know if it is attacked? Will I get a warning? Thanks in advance, I apologise for being so dumb!

No, there is no warning, it is a passive firewall on the uplink only. Having said that, it's pretty good in normal use and totally unintrusive, and it does effectively stealth your ports.

For better peace of mind, you can try Zone Alarm (free download from click here) - but you will get more pop-ups and alerts which can be annoying.

Most 'alerts' are nothing more than network broadcast packets from your ISP.
