Firewall Problem?

My Laptop is connected to the Internet by the use of a Router, the Router is upstairs my laptop downstairs.
When I Boot up I have just receive the following message
“Work Offline No connection to the Internet is currently available click to
“Work Offline” “Try Again”

There is also a message from my Kaspersky Anti -Virus
“The application C:\windows\explorer.exe cannot establish connection with server Check your internet settings.
If you have a Firewall installed check that the application AVP.EXE is allowed internet access.

This is the problem where do I find firewall and what I have to do.

I am running Windows XP

Go to Start>Control Panel>Window Firewall. Check the Exceptions Tab and see if AVD.EXE is shown, if not, click on the Edit button and add it.

it should appear in your program list or may be part of the kaspersky suite, if no luck there maybe start run firewall might help or add/remove progs in control panel

Hmm, maybe not the Edit button, but Add Program instead in Exceptions.

once it has booted up can you access the internet
