Firefox4 lockup

I have Firefox 4 Windows7

In firefox I get a misty veil drawn on top of the screen and the pointer turns to a revolving thick doughnut which disappears when I move to the margins of the site.
The screen freezes and sometimes takes a minute or so to clear but then the mouse may not work.

It also refuses to close the window, the only solution is to reboot, after which it works normally.

I have run Malwarebytes and ASC no problems found.

Is your CPU getting maxed out when this happens? To see cpu usage right click your taskbar > task manager, then the performance tab. Have this running before the problem occurs

I've given up on Firefox 4 as the screen freezes after 30 minutes and needs a reboot

The Firefox forums point to many others with this problem

For the moment I'm back on IE9
