firefox 6 google homepage slow to load

I use google.co.uk/firefox as my browser homepage. On initial start-up it usually takes about 15 seconds to load, and then gets quicker - just 2 seconds. But if I keep closing the browser to do other work and then open Firefox again, it often takes up to 25 seconds to load the homepage from then on until the end of the session. Is there any reason for this, and can it be avoided? I should add that the speed of loading web pages is not affected by the slow loading of the home page.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

The slow loading of FF is often related to issues with your FF profile.

Try downloading and running (no installation necessary) Speedyfox enter link description here

to tidy up your Firefox profile.

It may help speed things up a bit.
