Files transfer over to a new PC

What is the easiest way to transfer my documents etc over to my new PC? The old one is running Windows ME and the new one Windows XP Home Edn.
Is it possible to transfer programs over or do I need to install them from disc/internet on the new PC?

The easiest way, if the computers aren't networked in some way, is to either use a CD rewriter, or install the old hard drive as a Slave in the new computer and do a direct drag and drop onto the new drive. You will have to install all programs again, either way.

Transfer all the files in your old PC's 'My Documents Folder" to a CD. Insert the CD in new PC, then transfer the files to the 'My Documents'. Only drawback is that you will not be able to use the CD again unless you use a Re-writeable.

try external drive caddy (not very expensive) and just straight transer across.
