Filename with $ sign.

Hello friends,I created a word file an hour ago, named it "TOR for PIC" and saved it in the desktop folder. Now I find there's a second file, greyed out with a name "~$R for PIC" that would not disappear even when the "TOR for PIC" file is closed. I tried to open this second file and it was just a blank sheet. What is it? Is it safe to delete it from the desktop? Thanks.

It sounds like it is a ghost file from the one you created. Place it in the Recycle Bin for now just in case it is required at a later date.

Files with a ~ prefix are usually temporary files and can be safely deleted. As recap says, stick it in the Recycle Bin for a few days then empty it when you have seen that you don't need it. As a personal way of operating I do a Search for ~*.* at irregular intervals and delete them.
