I store most of my docs on an external drive and was wondering if it is possible to password selected folders, and how to do it.

You could use Dekart Private Disk Light, it doen't protect individual folders, but instead creates a virtual encryped drive, in which you store data.
Once you enter the password you use the drive as a normal drive.
I have been using it for ages and it works very well and is easy to use. I presume your external drive uses fat32, so you will be limited to a maximum virtual drive size of 4GB.
It's freeware, 280k download.
Just don't forget your password..........
