I have windows xp and on start up get the message"the following file is missing or corrupt WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM".
I have tried using microsoft Recovery Console which loads and takes me to the command promt and when I have typed in lines from MS site click here I get the message "Access is denied" and dont know why, I have not been asked for any passwords.
Any help appreciated, thank you.

Go to Recovery Console and type:

cd system32\config
ren system system.old
ren system.alt systemalt.old
copy c:\windows\repair\system
copy c:\windows\repair\regback\system
exit

press anter at the end of each line

From the xp disc can you reinstall windows, this would mean losing all your data, unless you can find a way to save it onto an external drive.

have tried C:FIXMBR that might help i normally use this to get rid of GRUB from Linux,
