~ file on desktop-what is it pease?

Quick Q.-Twice now i have had an unreadable file appear on my desktop,it has a tilde ~ mark on it.Is this whats called a scrap?Just interested.

I've had this and as i know there is no explanation for it. If you right click the file and choose open with...

Choose Notepad do you see email addresses?

You can delete it but it may reappear, it did on my computer but only once.

Thanks-both.I know now,yes it is an email address,along with scraps of other address's from my add.book in O/l.Express(opened 'with'notepad).Knowing this makes me think it has arrived,while testing copying email address's for another thread.

that this is a form of temporary file created by a running program and left behind when you crash or close down incorrectly. This was in W95

Whether this holds for XP, I have no idea!

More info-cheers wee eddie.I must admit,and a little unusually,my pc has had a couple of lockups rescently-had to ctrl/alt /del.
