File associations

I am trying to change the edit association with jpeg from MSPaint to either Picasa or Windows Live Photo.

Using the options in Default Progarams just changes the viewing or open association but not the edit.

I'm using Windows 7.

Any ideas?

If it's like Vista then I don't think it is possible without editing the registry. I think MS thought that if you opened a file in a program then you would be able to edit with it. But then why leave the edit command under right click?

Thanks Woolwell.

"But then why leave the edit command under right click?" - who knows the mysterious way of Microsoft..

I'll leave this open in the hope.

Like Woolwell says, I don't think Windows 7 has built-in support for changing the other associations for the right-click context menu.

The free "Default Programs Editor" utility is just what you need to change what opens with "Edit" and other right-click options. - click HERE.

Before you use it, make sure you create a backup of your Registry settings by clicking the little blue link at the bottom of the utility's main screen, or if you prefer, set a Windows 7 System Restore point.

Thanks Secret-Squirrel, that has worked a treat.
