File arranging in windows explorer

Windows seems to be ignoring leading zeros in file names, since I changed to XP Home Edition and when using "sort by file name". The folder contents are in numerical/alpha order, but leading zeros are ignored. I get for example filename "1dec234" appearing immediately after filename "0000001A1", and filename "000002A1" appears just before "2dec456"

When viewing graphics files for example with a program such as Irfanview, the program DOES account for leading zeros. So I see files in adifferent order to that shown on the screen.

Does anyone know how I can return explorer to show file lists taking account of leading zeros as in W95 and ME?
