Faulty power supply Asus

My 6 year old Asus computer repeatedly crashed a few days ago and the hardware monitor showed that the power supply unit was over-heating, 100plus. I am told the unit therefore needs replacing. Is it necessary to replace it immediately or can I continue using until it worsens? Since the day of multiple crashes its been running without any problems.
Could someone venture a repair cost and whether because of its age it would be worthwhile to repair it due to its obsolence and present value.

If the power supply goes bang it could take the motherboard cpu and hard drives with it, so better to renew ASAP.

COST - £25 upwards depending on quality required
Do it your self, a few screws and cables.

If renewing a PSU check:

1. The physical size of your PSU, some are hard to replace due to being a non standard size.
2. The amount of power need from the PSU don't skimp.
3 The correct connections for your equipment

# Flex ATX: Even smaller than Micro ATX. Various sizes according to case specs; often not interchangeable.

3. Correct connections
Some boards have 20 pin connectors others 24 pin
There is often a 4 pin plug required to power Intel CPUs
Molex D plugs for IDE HDD and CD/DVD drives
SATA power connections for latest HDDs and DVD drives.

Really not worth repairing!

Places like Maplins sell PSUs for around £30+.

Personally I would change it asap because if it blows it could take something or everything out with it!
