FAT32 to NTFS - will it delete existing files?

I have an external USB hard drive formatted as FAT32, and I would like to convert it to NTFS. There's a lot of data on it - 30+ GB - that I don't want to lose. Will converting delete everything on the disk?

But the usual warnings apply - before doing anything like this - BACKUP.

If, for instance, the power goes off in the middle of this job, the drive will likely be inaccessible without a complete reformat.

Thanks, guys - backing up 30+ GB is going to be some job, but I suppose it's better to be safe...
