FAT32 to NTFS conversion in XP

I'm trying to convert my current WinXP machine which is FAT32 to NTFS but am having a few problems trying to get it to work.

I run the command prompt to convert, comp restarts, does disk check, everything is fine, says there is enough space to convert (50GB free) then starts converting.

During the conversion process I get an error message saying some directories are damaged or there is not enough space to continue, I cant believe there wouldn't be enough space so is there any way to fix these directories and then start the process over. The disk check said everything was fine so I can't understand whats going on. The screen with the error message goes so fast that I can't see which directories it says are damaged.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks
