Fan for CPU

Dear Members

My Pentium 2 CPU fan stopped working. I am having difficulty finding the correct replacement as apparently they are now obsolete. Managed to get one from another PC (don't know what kind it was)but this has only two wires. The one I am replacing has 3 wires; the third wire being yellow. Does anybody have any idea what this extra wire is for. PS. I am using the new fan so it seems to work.

I think the 3rd wire is for sensing the sprrd of the fan. although I could be wrong

You're correct mark e, the third wire is the speed sensor (tachometer) output.

So you won't get a read out of fan speed, nor be able to get a warning if it stops.

Thanks for the help. It is brilliant that you can post a question and have the answer to your problem within half and hour.

Just dont forget to alter your BIOS to stop looking for a CPU fan fail.
