Faint horizontal lines across monitor display

My work PC has faint flickery horizontal lines right across its display area from top to bottom. Sometimes it's worse than others. It's a Compaq PC and has no graphics card as far as I'm aware.
Would really appreciate if anybody who recognises this problem and knows how to rectify it, would let me know.

may be just that you need to up the refresh rate a bit.

control panel/display/settings/advanced/monitor

tick "hide modes this monitor cannot display" and choose the highest available.

over 75hz 80hz or so you should not notice any flicker.

Is it anything like this? click here

Changing the refresh rate made the lines thicker and less annoying so it did help a bit but didn't solve the problem altogether.
The problem you mentioned Djohn is fairly similar except the lines don't correspond with the text. They are evenly spaced from top to bottom.
