Faint display

Windows XP SP2.
NVidia GF5200 graphics card.
Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 710 monitor (CRT).

When I switched my PC on today I noticed that as soon as the monitor began displaying the bios startup up the picture was all washed out and faint. After the bios had run its course, and the desktop appeared, the picture remained faint for a couple of minutes and then turned green before appearing normal.

The graphics card is about a year old and the monitor about six years old and, until now, I have had no problems at all.

I have neither a spare monitor nor graphics card. What do I replace first or could it be something else?

The only way to tell is by substitution of components. Can you borrow a monitor?

It was the graphics card.
