Failure of System Restore

I am using Windows XP Home SP2

Attemps to use System Restore (not having used it for some time) produce the following message:
'System Restore rstrui.exe unable to locate component. This application has failed to start because framedyn.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this'.
A search for the file reveals it is located at c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386 and at c:\temp\temp.frd4a6 and at c:\windows\$ntservicepack uninstall$, so I cannot understand why System Restore reports that it cannot find it.
When I tried to re-nstall Sytem Restore from from the XP installation disk, a message appears telling me that 'Setup cannot continue because the version on youe computer is newer than the version on the CD'.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do about this problem please ?

Regards

run sfc /scannow and have your disk to hand.
