Failure to find My Computer drives in xp

After clicking on "My computer" icon I receive a blank screen with a searching torch scanning left and right. I used towait for a minute or two and then my drive(s) would show as normal. Now I find that they either don't show at all, or I have to wait for five minutes or even longer. What's going wrong? Is there an easy fix?

Try Start, Run and type in

SFC /SCANNOW

(note the space before the /)

and click OK. Have your Windows CD to hand.

Thank you. This has seemed to work. The "Scannow" did not find any fault(s) however, but I hope that if the problem returns, I will use it again.

Re - using SFC /SCANNOW. Unfortunately this has not worked. I am back to square one. Is there any other options to correct this problem of finding the list of drivers on xp after clicking My Computer?
