Failure to connect printer on bootup

I have XP on my laptop and a Canon LBP-810 printer. Overnight when I restart my computer or from hibernating when I try and print via USB it tells me my printer is not connected and I have to reboot! After doing this all is OK. Device manager says OK, printer is default and status on, and also OK, drivers up to date. Someone told me it is likely to be the USB settings but again in system device settings all seems well? Could it be the order on boot up? How do I look at the hardware configurations. Anyone any ideas
John
