I have several Ubunto distro disks that whwn loaded give the option to run from disk to try or install. These normally work as described. How ever when trying to demo on an XP Home premiom this afternoon, the machine didnot perfom . when run the message came up 'no disk' insert disk. After several trys cleard the screen to find reboot messges- when actioned the reboot did not happen

What do you all think is not occuring here?

The thing that comes to mind is whether you have the correct version of ubuntu for the type of machine you are trying to run it on. There are two types of ubuntu (32 bit and 64 bit).

I believe that the 64 bit version will not run on a 32 bit machine and vice versa.

have you tried linux mint as this will run and load from xp, however with ubuntu you have restart the pc and boot from cd disk option then follow the on screen instructions
