F-Secure (Again!) - Backweb Lite, What is it?..etc

  xphile 08:53 30 Jul 05

F-Secure installs a program called 'Backweb Lite', which is picked up when I run a spybot scan. I have seen various links to removal tools, but my question is - Do I need to remove it? Is it spying on me?(My pc! - I'm not THAT paranoid!) Why would an AV product install it? Is it safe to just leave it? Answers to the above & any other info' most welcome. Ta.

Several companies (Kodak, Logitech, ...) use Backweb Lite to update their software.

Backweb is the means by which F-Secure updates the virus definitions. If you delete or disable it then the virus checker will continue to work by won't get the regular updates it needs

So the answer is to leave it and don't worry about it

Ahhh. That explains my update problems - Previously got rid of Backweb Lite. F-Secure now fully installed, including Backweb Lite.

Thanks Folks.
