Extracting initials in excel

  jaraba 19:04 24 Jul 10

I have a databse in excel in which the surnames are in one coloumn. I have extrated the initial of the 1st surname to an adjacent coloumm usin a formula but i would like to extract all the initials to that coloumn as well.
I have previously used the left(), right() & mid formula for similar purposes.

With Fred Scuttle in A1 this returns FS

=LEFT(A1,1)&MID(A1,FIND(" ",A1)+1,1)

Is that what you were looking for?

Many thanks that exactly what I was looking for.

Marked this as resolved toooooooooo early.
Formula from VoG works perfectly for multiple surnames but throws up a error when there is only one surname.
Tried various combinations of if statements but couldn't get them to work.
