Extracting files from laptop hardrive.

I have a friend who's laptop has given up the ghost due to a thunderstorm.
It was plugged into the charger but not switched on at the time.

The plan is to copy personal files from the hardrive after having removed it from the laptop.
Anyone know of a cable/adapter to connect it to a desktop via USB or IDE ?
This will be a one off operation so I don't need a caddy or such like.

Links to shop sites would be useful rather than "use cable XYZ" thx

There was a link to Scan Computers on your post which is perfect as I have an account with them.
