It has been suggested that an extra 1 gigabite would increase speed of pc. Vista is installed and it is dualcore.
Ihave this: VM 256 MB DDR PC266 2002JUN NT AND THESE NO, ELIXIR M2J25 256MB DDR-266MHZ PC2100U-25330
Not sure what you call item these numbers are on but I would like to increase speed of pc. Would this do the job.

another gig of ram u mean?
if yes then it would slightly increase speed yes because then the comp has more places to store random files that helps it to work
especially if it is a 256mb at the moment yes it wud be better

I take it you have 2X256MB (512MB total)memory cards.
Vista premium recommends 2GB memory for satisfactory performance and people with only 1GB are complaining of how slow Vista runs.
You would benefit from replacing both your memories with 1GB cards.

512MB of RAM is certainly far too little for Vista.

You need at least 1GB, and as Quiet Life says above, 2GB would be better.

Does it have to be Packard Bell ram or would any make do

  Quiet Life 14:36 02 Nov 07

No any make will do but some are better than others try Crucial who are well regarded by members of this forum.

Agree with that, goto Crucial and let it scan your system. It should tell you both what you have and how much you can take.
I have to agree that I have found even pretty high spec PCs with 1 gig of memory struggle if they have onboard graphics.
If you only have 512mb I'm not surprised you are unhappy.
Get more memory.

In view oyour 2x256MB ram modules this makes no sense at all. Download and run Everest Free from click here
This will tell exactly what your spec. is and also post model of your computer.

  Totally-braindead 19:00 02 Nov 07

Ah forgot its Vista you have and the Crucial scanner has some problems with Vista.
Try Everest and see if it identifies the motherboard.
Is this a fairly new computer? If not it might have trouble running Vista, could you also post the speed of your PC Everest should tell you if you don't know.
Or if its a brand name PC give us the name of the maker and the model of your PC.
