external mouse does not detect in laptop

when do i connect external mouse to my laptop that has window vista os then it will not detect and when i clik to show the problem it shows USB device attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and window does not recognize it and in recommendation section it shows try connecting the device and if window still does not recognize it replace the device..............
i have tried to disconnect and again connect it although it does not recognized
so please give me suggestion how shall i connect mouse to laptop????????????

with mouse connected go to device nanager and uninstall yellow icon the in control panel go to add new hardware wizard, choose from list button you need to choose mouse the HID Compiant Mouse
