External housing for 'bare' hard drive

Does anyone recollect there used to be a housing you could get to put a bare hard drive into which you could then plug into another computer to download its contents. It was used to recover the data fron the hard drive of a failed computer or could also be used as an external drive. If anyone remembers such a thing, do you know if it is still available and from where?

I have a large hard drive in my old PC which I would like to be able to attach to my laptop to use for video and music transfers.

Thanks for the quick - and helpful - response. I just KNEW there would be someone out there who is knowledgeable about such things. It's interesting that there is also a 'firewire' version - that suggests I might even get firewire speed of data transfer.
