I am thinking of getting an external HDD, is there one that will work with both Windows and Apple. Using it as a storage device so that i can swap between machines.
Any advice please, Thanks
Mike

Most external hard drives will work on both machines as long as the drive is formatted to fat32, downside is any individual file can only be maximum 4gb in size, so if making large movie files say, it could be a problem.

That is exactly what my plans were. Am I right in thinking then, that if i keep the ext hdd to one brand ie Apple or Win then files over 4gb will be allowed?
Thanks again

I believe your right re keeping it to one file format, NTFS should allow larger file sizes.

I have read somewhere that you can format as HFS+ and install MacDrive onto a PC but i really have no personal knowledge of it, hopefully someone might be able to throw some light on that.

Also, when i originally posted i gave no thought of Vista, i am not sure whether FAT32 could work with Vista or now, someone else might be able to shed some light there too.

Thanks so far Cycoze.

Any more input from anyone else?
