i've just got an external hdd , Packard Bell store & save 250gb ,is it safe to leave it switched on all the time ?

Its probably safe but why do you need to leave it on ?

I turn mine off when not in use. I recall some one advising that it would also help in the event of a virus or the like invading the main drive on the PC.
