No.

Don't understand the question. A external Drive increases space you can put things on

Also if its a Laptop 2.5inch drive you do not need to use a mains adapter, it just plugs into USB

just cant understand why my memory is so low.-in the 'c' drive the 'windows' section.is there any way you can clean this up tried ccleaner.Dont want to delete any thing i need

When you say memory is low do you mean RAM or do you mean space on your c: Hard Drive?

CCleaner is one of the best tools available for freeing up hard drive space but you should also use Defrag to optimise how your drive is utilised.

Adding an external drive will do nothing to increase your RAM but it will give you extra storage space.

XP or Vista ?

If you are losing space on c: and the os is Vista then its possible system restore is at fault, not actually a fault but the way it works.
