i recently bought a samsung external harddrive, it worked fine until one day I dropped it on the floor, since then my computer has not recognised it.
Any ideas would be much appreciated

There is an old theory that you could put it an airtight bag and into the freezer for a few hours; then connect up and you may be able to get the data off it.

More likely though the drop will have caused some physical damage - you could always open up and have a look in the hope that it is something simple like a disconnection of somesort.

I don't hold out much hope though.
